Join the Grayhawk Hiking Club on the Seven Springs Loop

Looking to embark on a long day hike before the weather heats up? Join the Grayhawk Hiking Club on Saturday, March 29th for one of their all-time favorites, the Seven Springs Loop! This 10-mile loop through the Tonto National Forest, just north of Carefree, is a real treat for seasoned hikers. The difficulty is moderate to strenuous, with an elevation gain of 1,000 feet. There are plenty of rolling hills as well, adding substantially to the accumulated gain.

This hike boasts spectacular views and plenty of variety, with both narrow and wide trails, shaded areas, wide open meadows, rugged boulders, and several water crossings.

Registration for the Seven Springs Loop hike is required on the Meetup site. Participants must join the group and RSVP for the hike. Each member is allowed a maximum of 2 guests. This is a day hike with an expected completion time of 5-6 hours, so make sure to bring plenty of water, snacks and good hiking shoes. Hiking poles are also recommended. If you are interested in carpooling to the trailhead, the group will be meeting at Fry’s on Hayden Road and Thompson Peak Parkway at 7 a.m.

Have You Been to the Wallace Desert Gardens?

One of the most amazing little-known gems in North Scottsdale is just minutes down the road from Grayhawk. The Wallace Desert Gardens, located in the gated luxury community of Sincuidados, is a private collection of stunning desert flora, including a variety of cacti from around the world. It is also one of the largest of its kind.

grayhawk scottsdale The Wallace Desert Gardens were announced last year to be at risk of closing. Since then, no decisions have been made as to where or when the gardens are to be moved, and exclusive tours are still being held for those who make an appointment. A visit to the Wallace Desert Gardens is absolutely free, though donations are always accepted and encouraged. If you have never been to the gardens, this is a great opportunity to experience their breathtaking beauty before they are relocated.

When Henry B. Wallace and his wife Jocelyn first moved to Arizona, they fell immediately in love with the desert and felt that much like the rainforest, it needed to be protected. In 1987, they founded the Wallace Desert Gardens, then a parcel of land just outside Phoenix. Today, the Wallace Desert Gardens are a vast collection of around 3,000 species of desert plants sitting on 12 acres.

The Wallace Desert Gardens Foundation was formed in 1993 in order to oversee and preserve the gardens through donations and endowments. After the death of H. B. Wallace in 2005, the foundation was only able to maintain the gardens for a short time with money he left behind. Because Sincuidados prohibits running a business within the community, the foundation has not been able to charge a fee to visit the Wallace Desert Gardens.

The Boyce Thompson Arboretum and the Desert Botanical Gardens are two possible future locations for the Wallace Desert Gardens, but for now, nature lovers can enjoy visiting the gardens at their current home in Sincuidados.

Featured Grayhawk Restaurant – The Grind

Grayhawk Scottsdale has a long list of delicious dining establishments, but one in particular is standing out this month – The Grind.

The Grind, located in the Grayhawk shopping plaza, was named one of the top ten hamburger spots in the country by Bon Appetit. Not only is their gorgeous outdoor patio and stylish indoor bar enticing, they are also home to the only 1,000 degree coal-fired oven of its kind.

The Grind is the perfect place to sit down to a unique burger topped with ingredients like roasted poblano and shitake tempura. They also serve up a variety of delectable desserts like bread pudding and warm doughnuts.

The Grind at Grayhawk is open seven days a week and is located at 20511 N. Hayden Road in Scottsdale.

Grayhawk may be best known for its excellent golf courses and beautiful homes, but it’s quickly becoming a well-known dining destination too.

Explore the Bajada Nature Trail

If you’re a nature lover or enjoy an easy hike with a beautiful view, it’s about time you discovered the Bajada Nature Trail. Located a short drive from the golf community of Grayhawk Scottsdale, the nature trail is a half-mile of interactive nature experiences. Exhibits along the trail reveal stories of some of Arizona’s most interesting indigenous plants and animals. Hikers will view budding cacti, rare birds and some of Arizona’s smaller reptiles.

The trail was built wide and stable so that it is accessible for people of all abilities. Its flat terrain offers hikers an easy and enjoyable walk. Trail amenities include parking, restrooms and water fountains. It is suggested that all hikers bring a hat, sunscreen and water. Dogs on leashes are welcome to join their owners on this beautiful nature walk.

The Bajada Nature Trail, located in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, can be accessed at 18333 N. Thompson Peak Parkway. You will find the trail just beyond the walking bridge on the Preserve side of the Gateway Trail.

Location, location, location! Grayhawk is situated close to some of North Scottsdale’s greatest hiking and attractions. The gorgeous Bajada Nature Trail offers a fun afternoon for the entire family and it’s just minutes from Grayhawk.
