Workshops for Youth Comes to Grayhawk

Scottsdale-based non-profit Workshops for Youth and Families will be coming to Grayhawk for a special 4-hour workshop called “Friendwise.” Designed for preteens ages 9-12, this interactive program will teach participants essential skills in building strong social relationships.

grayhawk homes for saleThe goal of the workshop is to help young people become their best self by teaching them the skills they may not learn in school – leadership and communication. Through a variety of activities, games and other fun learning tools, kids and teens are able to develop self-confidence, respect, resiliency and many other traits that will benefit them for a lifetime.

The workshop is hosted by Frances Mills-Yerger, Ph.D., otherwise known as Dr. Franny, along with a number of volunteer peer leaders. These peer leaders are mostly workshop alumni who have benefitted greatly from the program and wish to help other teens their age learn and grow.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Grayhawk families. Many Scottsdale teens and preteens who have attended the Workshops for Youth and Families programs have seen positive changes in their relationships with their parents and friends, as well as in many other aspects of their lives.

The “Friendwise” workshop will be held on Sunday, February 16th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Talon Room of the Offices at Grayhawk building. Cost for registration is $35 per participant. Space is limited, so please register ahead of time.

Arizona Musicfest Comes to Grayhawk!

As part of the 2014 Arizona Musicfest, Vi at Grayhawk will be hosting a special Young Performers Recital on January 18 at 2 p.m. Spend an afternoon with other Scottsdale music lovers who share your enthusiasm for classical composition, while showing your support for a group of talented young musicians.

az musicfestThis afternoon event will showcase three award-winning performers: Linda Han (violin), Jonah Breakstone (piano) and Jessica Zhang (piano). For these inspiring youths, the Young Performers Recital is an exciting opportunity to experience playing for an audience in a professional concert atmosphere. The concert will be followed by a reception during which you can meet the musicians, ask questions, discuss classical music and enjoy refreshments.

This event is free to attend and does not require an RSVP.

Arizona Musicfest is an organization dedicated to presenting exceptional musical performance and educating Arizona’s youth through various music programs in local schools. The annual winter festival includes performances in a wide range of genres such as classical orchestral, jazz, opera, country-western, pop and more. Concerts and programs take place throughout Scottsdale, Carefree and North Phoenix.
