With his victory at the U.S. Open last month, German-born PGA Pro Martin Kaymer has added to the long list of championships Whisper Rock has among its membership.
In fact, the super-exclusive Scottsdale golf club is pretty well known for its elite ranks. Along with Kaymer, Whisper Rock has welcomed Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Fred Couples and Geoff Ogilvy as members throughout the years, accounting for a total of 11 championships.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Whisper Rock’s prestigious roster of players. The club is reported to have at least 30 PGA Tour golfers as members, all of which must have paid hefty fees to get in. Memberships at Whisper Rock currently go for around $130,000, and nobody, not even the pros, gets a freebie here.
That’s because Whisper Rock, surprisingly enough, is one of the most laid-back and unpretentious of golf clubs in the area. Not a place for braggarts and big egos, Whisper Rock is where amateurs and pros alike can be of equal standing, hang out, have a drink and enjoy true camaraderie.
Basically, if you’re ever lucky enough to get an invite to one of the most exclusive and secretive clubs in the country, you’ll surely be rubbing shoulders with big names such as Gary McCord, Peter Kostis, and, of course, all those high-profile champions.
